Halifax indulges its craving for Candy
March 30 at the Marquee.
(How sweet it is!)
For Halifax fans who are always craving more Candy … it’s
time to indulge! At 8 p.m. Friday, March 30, Candy Palmater hits the Marquee
stage (and everyone’s sweet spot) with metro’s first live
performance of The Candy Show!
A variety and talk show that’s as entertaining and clever as it
is laugh-out-loud funny; The Candy Show was first presented in Chester
last fall, to rave reviews. Produced by Pink Dog Productions, The Candy
Show is being taped for broadcast on untv.ca, Canada’s first internet
television channel. (Just when fans thought they could never get enough
Candy, they’ll be able to get their fix whenever and wherever they
want it. On internet TV!)
The Candy Show delivers top entertainers and personalities to the stage
including MIR, a band that has toured world stages and
is one of the most innovative and melodic groups to ever come out of Canada.
Candy will showcase Venus Envy’s Maggie Haywood
and her ‘adult toys’; contortionist and tissue artist Caitlan
Anthony and Halifax’s own Pink Velvet Burlesque.
Candy will also interview Dr. Charlotte Loppie, professor of Health and
Human Performance at Dalhousie University; Kyle Shaw, editor and founder
of The Coast as well as Halifax mover and shaker, Victor Syperek.
As part of The Candy Show, Candy will interview her musical guests on
a big pink bed, fashioned after the one in her teenage bedroom, where
she misspent her youth dreaming about interviewing musicians on her own
TV show. (Watch out MIR!)
The youngest of seven children born to a Mi’kmaq father and a white
mother, Candy Palmater grew up among bikers and body-builders in Northern
New Brunswick. A government bureaucrat and self-described ‘recovering
lawyer’, she created The Candy Show by tapping into her rich resource
of personal and work experiences, her ability to communicate her personal
perspectives on Canadian life, not to mention her witty and gritty observations
about North American society.
Tickets for The Candy Show are $15 in advance, $20 at the door
and are on sale now at CD PLUS on Barrington Street.

Palmater. She is a Mi'mkaq - one of the few female native comics in North

Candy Show" really got started.
