Candy travels the country visiting schools, first nation communities and events speaking on many topics, but the one that hits her the hardest is anti-bullying and suicide. As a Gay, Native, woman she understands the struggles. Candy shares her stories with the young people and how she still has her struggles today, but she remains triumphant. Candy has achieved much success in life by following her dreams, by allowing those who support her to be around her, true friends, family and positive supporters. It is not easy, heck, life is not suppose to be easy, life is about making choices that you want, not what others want for you, or try to make you do. This is your life to live, have fun, dream big, and surround yourself with other people with similar wants and goals. Life is wonderful, don;t leave the world early. Live. Watch Video
To quote one of my favorite lines in one of my favorite movies, Storm of the Century ( book/ story written by Stephen King), the line is “Pushers get pushed Donnie Beals, Pushers get pushed”, is a line I use often. Donnie Beals is the son of the small town’s mayor, and little Donnie, like his father, likes to bully and control those around him. You will have to read the book or watch the movie for this moment, as the entire story is not about the Beals, but something more grand, that involves the town’s people. Which in turn makes even the top town bullies cower…..
I wanted to blog today, as Candy is Hosting/ speaking at a 3 day Aboriginal Youth Conference in Ontario, called ” Dream Walkers gathering” which is a motivational event for Aboriginal youth to stay in school, put on by the Niagara Peninsula Aboriginal area Management Board. The problem of youth suicide is astounding, we all have a big part to play in helping to put an end to the bullies that push the victims to death. I feel this is murder, but call it what it is, this epidemic must stop.
